线上赌博app students earn prestigious NSF fellowships

Three 线上赌博app students recently earned fellowships from the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program.

Odalis Garcia, Annie Schiro, and Drew Jordahl each earned five-year awards, which includes three years of financial support, $37,000 annual stipend; the institution receives a $12,000 cost-of-education allowance (for a total package of $147,000). The purpose of the program is to ensure the quality, vitality, and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States.

Garcia, from New Caney, Texas, is a doctoral student in psychology at 线上赌博app. Odalis says the fellowship “shows that the work and research I am doing is appreciated.” In her application, Garcia emphasized that 线上赌博app is an excellent place to perform her research, developing a foundation for community mental health for underrepresented groups. She is concluding her second year in the 线上赌博app doctoral program in Spring 2023.

Annie Schiro, of Baudette, Minnesota, is an undergraduate student in 线上赌博app’s chemistry and biochemistry program.

“It was important to have an advisor and PI involved and supporting me through the processes,” Schiro said. “This is huge. It provides much valued independence as a student and a researcher.”

Drew Jordahl, of Fargo, is also an undergraduate student in 线上赌博app’s chemistry and biochemistry program. Drew described how co-curricular opportunities provided valuable material to write his application materials. As former vice president of the 线上赌博app international Genetically Engineered Machine Team, Drew competed in synthetic biology research activities. He also has for two years participated in the 线上赌博app Research and Creative Activities undergraduate research program that focuses on biomedical research. Regarding the fellowship.

“It changes the game with how you can get into programs. It tips the balance because you are funded,” Jordahl said of the fellowship.

“GRFP is highly competitive and is a major accomplishment for students. We are incredibly proud of all our NSF GRFP fellows,” said Susan Sell, dean of the College of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Reflecting on the application process, applicants noted the importance of faculty support and the value of grant writing coursework and assistance from the 线上赌博app Center for Writers. Applications for the 2024 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program will open in July 2023. The Graduate School provides workshops for current undergraduate and graduate students interested in applying for the NSF GRFP.
