The 线上赌博app College of Engineering recognized two faculty members and a graduate student for their outstanding work in the classroom.

Joseph Latimer, senior lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, was named the 2021 recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award.

Latimer joined 线上赌博app as a lecturer in 2007 and has taught a wide range of computer science courses. He manages and mentors the department’s learning assistants.

“Joe has a long-standing teaching history and has been an exceptional teacher,” said Simone Ludwig, professor and interim chair of computer science. “Joe is also an excellent adviser to our students and serves the department through his work on several committees.”

The 2021 Early Career Excellence in Teaching Award was given to Danling Wang, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering.

Since joining 线上赌博app in 2016, Wang’s courses have covered a variety of areas from fundamental electrical engineering to hands-on research designing electronic and optical devices.

“Dr. Wang exhibits her strong multidisciplinary background in her teaching, advising and research and has been rated by students as the most caring and reachable teacher,” said Ben Braaten, professor and chair of electrical and computer engineering. “She has also developed a number of undergraduate research courses and served as a mentor of a local non-profit organization, uCodeGirl, since 2019.”

The College of Engineering also recognized the role graduate students play in advancing 线上赌博app’s student-focused mission.

Lauren Singelmann, who is working toward her doctorate in electrical and computer engineering and STEM education, was named the 2021 Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year.

Nominators praised Singelmann for her work in developing 线上赌博app’s innovation-based-learning educational construct where students learn new material and demonstrate their learning by application to an innovation that solves a societal need.

Latimer, Wang and Singelmann were honored at the College of Engineering Scholarship and Awards Reception on Sept. 10.
