Your Voice Matters

A student vote will take place February 24-26 to help fund the next phase of the Memorial Union renovation through a student fee increase of $3.00 per credit (capped at 12 credits per semester). Your support will be paired with philanthropic investment to include an expansion.

Vote YES in February to help shape a Memorial Union that reflects who we are and who we want to become.

Rooted in Tradition of Student Leadership: Ready for Renewal

The Memorial Union exists because students believed in it. In 1947, the student body voted to support a $5 activity fee to fund its construction. With help from alumni and local businesses, the Union opened in 1953 during Homecoming Week — a tribute to the men and women of 线上赌博app who gave their lives in service.

Since then generations of students have shaped the Union through votes, funds and vision. Their leadership brought about expansions, in 1964, 1987 and 2007, and a series of renovations that helped the building adapt to changing needs.

These efforts have kept the Union functional and relevant, but they’ve also stretched the building to its limits.

Today, the Memorial Union faces challenges that can’t be solved with small fixes. Its infrastructure, layout and capacity no longer fully support the way students live, learn and connect. To continue serving as the heart of campus, the Union needs more than maintenance — it needs transformation.

A Vision Inspired by Students and Community

In a recent survey, 32% of students said they use the Memorial Union daily — primarily for dining, studying, socializing, attending events, and accessing student services. Their feedback is clear: they want additional comfortable seating, better lighting, and more spaces to study, relax, and connect.

Nearly half of respondents said they prefer a cozy, traditional design — a nod to the Union’s legacy and a call for spaces that feel warm and welcoming.

Students also identified the following as very important:

  • Individual and group study spaces
  • Comfortable seating and lounge areas
  • Outdoor gathering spaces
  • Dedicated areas for student organizations and events

This project is being shaped by student voices and will continue to be guided by focus groups, campus input and community collaboration.
