Bison to the Bakken: Explore North Dakota’s Energy Future

Bison to the Bakken is a three‑credit, immersive travel experience that connects 线上赌博app students to western North Dakota’s energy sector. Through an itinerary of industry site tours, conversations with top employers and hands-on learning experiences, students gain an in‑depth understanding of the state’s energy landscape — while building valuable connections that can lead to internships and future careers.

Program Overview

Taking place in August 2026, Bison to the Bakken takes students across the Bakken region and central North Dakota to explore the full scope of the energy sector. Participants engage with industry professionals to learn about oil and gas production, fracking, pipelines, carbon capture, biofuels, lignite coal, wind energy and energy distribution.

The experience also provides insight into North Dakota’s government operations, regulatory processes and economic development efforts. Social and cultural activities are included to round out the experience and provide a broader understanding of the region and its communities.

Who Can Participate

Enrollment is limited to 45 students and is open to all majors

Students can pursue credit through business, engineering or agriculture

Students are encouraged to speak with their academic advisor to determine how the credits will apply to their program of study

Cost & Funding

Travel and lodging are fully covered through gift funding

Students are responsible for the cost of their regular fall 2026 semester tuition and fees

Some meals are included; students should plan to cover approximately one meal per day out of pocket

This program was initially funded by the Economic Diversification Research Funds (EDRF), established by the North Dakota Legislature in 2023 to promote economic growth through investment in research universities. EDRF funding helped make the initial Bison to the Bakken experience possible.
