PROGRAM AND/OR RESEARCH INTERESTS: Dr. Knodel provides leadership in Extension Entomology and the North Dakota Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program relevant to the Upper Great Plains and disseminates extension and applied research information in both professional and lay publications. Activities focus on IPM strategies for insect pests of agricultural crops grown in North Dakota including sunflower, canola, corn, pulse crops, dry beans, soybean, barley and spring wheat. Research projects include: developing alternative IPM strategies (host plant resistance, cultural control, biological control), evaluating insecticide efficacy for pest control including seed and foliar treatments, identifying the development of insecticide resistance in insect pests, forecasting pest populations and infestation risks in the field, and conducting pest surveys and insect trapping networks. I also co-coordinate the annual 线上赌博app Extension Crop & Pest Report. Relevant extension outreach (fact sheets, videos, web, podcasts, Facebook, radio, TV) is disseminated to stakeholders, such as researchers, producers, commodity groups, crop consultants, ag industry representatives, consumers and others. In addition, Dr. Knodel studies pollinators including bees, Syrphrid flies and butterflies in gardens and field crops in collaboration with Dr. Esther McGinnis, Associate Professor & Extension Horticulturist and MG Coordinator at 线上赌博app.
