My expertise is in the field of plant breeding and genetics, with a primary focus on oilseed crops, specifically canola and flax. My expertise encompasses genetic studies, genomics analysis, and the application of genomic selection techniques. My program is equipped with all the necessary field equipment, including a combine, swather, planter, tractor, cultivators, and a seed quality lab with tools such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. I also have DNA lab with all necessary equipment, and DJI drones with multispectral and RGB cameras for high-throughput phenotyping. In collaborative research, I have access to a customized robot equipped with RGB cameras, along with a spray tank and nozzles for effective weed control. Additionally, I am involved in research focused on developing nanofungicides and nanoherbicides for pest management. My primary research centers on the development of canola and flax cultivars with desired traits such as high seed yield, increased oil content, disease resistance, and stress tolerance, using both interspecific and intraspecific crosses. I actively collaborate with national and international public institutions, commercial companies, and stakeholders to achieve our shared goals. I am open to new ideas and emerging technologies, integrating them into my breeding program to foster innovation and progress.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this course is to provide an in-depth background in all areas of classical Mendelian genetics, population and evolutionary genetics, and molecular genetics. The final goal is for the student who successfully completes this course to be conversant in all of the areas of genetics and have sufficient basic knowledge to successfully move on and master advanced topics in genetics. This will be achieved by learning how geneticists solve problems and make new discoveries. All of the course materials are available via Blackboard and through group email. The student will be responsible for learning the basic course content and are urged to read the textbook. All students will be expected to participate in these classroom exercises and discussions.
